The other day, I was at Radius Pharmacy to get my prescription for my whiplash injury. I was wondering around the store waiting for the medicines when I spotted a new arrival makeup stand from Designer Brands Cosmetics. For you who lives outside New Zealand & Australia, Designer Brands Cosmetics (DB) is an Australian cosmetic brand which is part of a company called Total Beauty Network. DB products are available at most pharmacies throughout NZ & AUS. They are being advertised as makeup at drugstore prices with high end quality. All their products are under NZ$30.

To be honest, I walked pass DB cosmetics countless times before and never wanted to try any of their products. Why? I'm not entirely sure. Maybe they don't have fancy packaging? Maybe they're too cheap to be any good? Or, maybe because I've never heard anyone talk about this brand before. Anyway, I've now tried it and I have to admit. I am truly impressed.

The one product that I'm talking about is DB Designer Brands Oil-free Mineral Foundation (NZ$14.99). It claims to formulated for oily and blemish prone skin. I've got this is the shade 706 Honey Beige which matches my skin very well. I'm in between MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC25-NC30. I think Honey Beige is a tad lighter than NC30 but doesn't look orange like most MAC foundations do. It appears more towards a pinky side but not too pink for warm skin ladies.

The package is a sturdy clear plastic pump bottle. The clear plastic and white/silver packaging makes it look clean. It doesn't look cheap but doesn't look luxurious either. Just a plain straight forward packaging and there's nothing wrong about it. It has a sticker with a barcode & details about the product sealed at the back. I think this is really good as it tells you whether the bottle has been opened or not.

From a tester tube I tried at the store, the foundation was on the liquid-y side. But when I used the one I bought, the foundation came out with foam/mousse texture and not runny at all. I find that it dries pretty fast. I have to apply & blend it very quickly. The foundation evens out my skin tone very well. Since it's oil-free, it gives more of a matte finish. I would say it's has light-medium coverage. Those darker acne scars on my face are still visible after applying the foundation. It's a little drying when using on its own. I find that it gives a better application when mix this foundation with either a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. I like using this with my Skin79 BB cream.

I normally set my foundation with translucent powder. During the 5 days that I used this foundation, I didn't use any powder to set and the foundation stayed on very well. I can tell that this foundation keeps my skin shine-free for about 3-4 hours before I have to use blotting papers on my face. The most important thing and a really good thing about this foundation is that it doesn't break me out...not yet anyway.

Overall, I really like this foundation. It gives me better results than what I expected. For a $15 foundation, I believe I do get what I paid for if not....more!
